Mobile hard drives

http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=1344

The MMC Association has announced a new standard to allow MMC controller hardware to interface with tiny hard drives. The ATA on MMC Specification allows companies to use the MMC bus and controllers, which are already built into many mobile chipsets, in order to run a small form factor hard drive. This move will make it faster and less expensive to add hard drive storage to mobile devices, including cell phones. It also could reduce the potential size of hard drive enabled devices by eliminating the need for a separate hard drive controller, however hard drives already add additional bulk to devices.

Could we start getting more space on our devices in the future for storing pictures, files, and music? We're up to 2 or 3GB flash cards -- could this get us to 100GB?

This would be awesome, as I use my Treo as an MP3 player. I can only imagine how much music I could carry around with something like this

I have friends who have an iPod just because of the storage capacity. I don't mind using my mini-disks for tune storage, but this would be amazing.

Seems to me that cellphones are becoming more multi-purpose each year and its usefulness is inevitable.
